The Sydney Symphony Orchestra came to us to design the website for a flagship educational workshop which offers young high school composers a chance to workshop their compositions with a live orchestra under the acclaimed conductor Richard Gill.
In 2007 the Sydney Symphony Sinfonietta workshop (which aims to develop composition experience for high school music students) went national and a website was needed to promote the offer to net-savvy young musos.
With strong networks in NSW but few connections beyond, we needed a concept that would promote distribution without a large media spend. The result is a website that offers budding musicians a chance to create a virtual orchestra and send it on to a friend. The compositional tool also doubles as a demo of the instruments that will be used in the actual workshops.
Digital Eskimo was a Finalist in the 2007 Classical Music Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Music in Education. We also recently updated the site for the 2008 and 2009 workshops with a fresh colour scheme and graphics, more video and updated the user interface.
