Tim has always had an eye for smart design. In his teens, he aspired to be a lighting designer and worked in that field before pursuing entrepreneurial ventures where he revelled in the world of a small business. This, along with some study, kept him busy until he started working with early pioneers in the event management space. This lead him to a becoming the Events and Entertainment Manager at Sydney University. Returning back to his entrepreneurial roots, he then ran a successful sales team for a corporate events events company. Woven throughout his work endeavours were multiple travels to obscure countries across 6 continents.

For four years, Tim has helped organisations understand and identify opportunities to bed human centred design into their world. Working at a strategic level, he facilitates new business engagement processes and ensures that client’s needs are met along the journey.

Tim is a dynamic character whose interests evolve daily as he’s exposed to the many different intricacies of life. Core to his personality is the need for nature and culture, which ties in nicely with the values of Digital Eskimo.

With a business degree from Bristol, a project practitioners qualification and 3 years production experience in the creative digital space, Candice has worked across many award-winning integrated campaigns that have leveraged the use of mobile, social and online to deliver their objectives. As a result, she has developed a dynamic understanding of the challenges that come with delivering projects on time, to budget and as required.

Candice believes strongly in the importance of collaboration and sustainable methods of working to drive efficiency and success when it comes to project delivery. Working at Digital Eskimo allows her to exercise these ways of thinking with clients who deliver these principles not only for their business, but for others too.

An action-sports junkie, Candice enjoys any opportunity to get involved, whether that be training for a triathlon, running a marathon to raise money for charity or volunteering with a local community project.

Ben loves to embrace contradiction and difference, both as a design method and as an approach to the world (give him a nerdy chance and he’ll try to squeeze in the term “nomad thought” or “dialectical synthesis”, depending on his mood). He has engaged in social movement activism, designed websites for Coca-Cola, Disney and Microsoft, run community arts projects with refugees, and pursued academic research in Cultural Studies. He’s particularly proud of his work on Swapping Lives and First Australians, two online documentary projects for SBS that explored non-linear narratives.

These projects highlight a passion that runs through all of his work: an interest in the different ways we can tell stories. The fact that Digital Eskimo’s Considered Design methodology pays great attention to people’s stories is why Ben left almost a decade of freelance design work to rejoin a studio. Ben’s interest in stories follows through to how they engage with spaces and systems. Therefore mobile user experience, locative media, ubiquitous computing, urbanism and service design use a lot of his spare brain cells.

Lastly, Ben also wears a lot of black — he’s a designer.

Shaping one’s unique perception of the world through social and cultural immersions is a must for Eric. Having a sort of “bucket-list” he lives by, Eric is an explorer for challenges and life changing activities. With a bit of odd, yet serendipitous series of events, Eric made the journey from the United States to join the DE team in February of 2011. His passion for creating sustainable, cradle to cradle environments, influenced by a web of life direction, complements Digital Eskimo’s considered design approach.

Eric’s career is a mesh of experiences. Educated with a Bachelors degree in Industrial Design and a Masters in Interaction Design from the US, Eric has worked professionally in product design and mobile UX design. In 2003, Eric took a bold step, moved to Houston, Texas and started a unique journey to be an ESL elementary teacher. For the next 4 years, Eric taught 3rd through 5th grade English to at-risk children living in a Hispanic community taken by poverty and crime.

Currently, Eric is co-authoring a book on mobile UI design patterns for O’Reilly Publishing. In his spare time, you’ll find Eric exploring the new sites of Sydney, tackling an understanding of Aussie culture, ie. the rules of Cricket and Rugby, and hanging out at the beach.

With over ten years experience producing software and leading development in industries as diverse as finance and publishing, Chris is driven by a fascination of the power of the internet and new ideas.

He has a compulsion for doing thing ‘right’ and, as a closet process geek, likes nothing more than exploring ways to make things work just a little bit better, whether it be an elegant bit of code or a handy new tool or idea.

Originally from the UK, Chris packed up his rucksack in 2006 and decided to see how far he could travel sitting on a plane for a whole day. Much to his surprise, he ended up settling in Sydney, where he’s been overusing the outdoors and bonding with the locals via the medium of sport ever since.

A Jill of all trades, Anika’s box of tricks includes design thinking, user-experience & process mapping, facilitation, community consultation and education. Trained as an industrial designer, Anika loves nothing more than seeing ideas steeped in insight and research come to life in new and meaningful ways. Eight years on, her passion for producing engaging and user-friendly products, services and communications with a skilled and dedicated team of problem solvers is what continues to drive her.

Anika has led projects at large international innovation consultancies to small design start-ups for clients across all business sectors from big banks to small NGO’s and local councils on new product development, brand, service, digital and capability projects. She has developed and teaches a university course in creative problem solving, and continues to hone her skills as a behavioural researcher in her role as an Experience Architect at Digital Eskimo.

Anika is passionate about the environment and community connectedness and is currently undertaking a Masters in Community Management. A self-confessed adventure and nature-nut, when she’s not at her desk she’s probably camping, mountain-biking, hiking, or surfing, preferably in that order over one weekend!

How do you encourage behaviour change through a website? Will gestural interfaces only ever be used for gaming, or spread one day to secure banking? Ben has been in the online space for nearly 14 years, and fills his head with these sorts of questions all the time.

Two years in Ireland gave Ben an incurable liking for Guinness, uilleann pipes and bagging out Brian O’Driscoll. It also gave him experience in business analysis, interaction design and learning the value of prototyping for communicating concepts to clients and stakeholders.

Since then, he has continued to help numerous businesses, government departments and not-for-profits maximise the value of their online presences by paying attention to their strategy, listening to the people for whom the presences are for, and coming up with deep insights and compelling designs.

Ben is passionate about fostering empathy and creativity in others, and the power of design to change lives rather than just the decor. When not asking questions and dreaming up ways of using his kids’ toys as protoyping tools, he gets into photography, oil painting and drawing.

Creating a healthy work environment forms an integral part of our staff wellbeing policy.

Inspired by a smart TED talk about the value of plants in the workforce, we chose to deck out our Igloo with a range of specially selected greenery, including Peace Lily (Mauna Loa), Mother in law’s Tongue, Janet Craig Dracaena and Rubber Plant. These amazing plants have the unique ability to produce oxygen, balance internal humidity and effectively absorb potentially harmful toxins.

All this clean, fresh air reduces the levels of stress and illness and charges the Eskimos with a positive and productive energy while they work. What’s more, the lush green plants promote a warm and calming ambiance of connecting with nature.

Our Igloo also features a thriving herb garden that provides us with organic and freshly picked mint, basil, chives, perennial coriander, parsley and chilli for our lunches. Yum!

The process of turning ideas into reality has always fascinated Yvonne, a self-confessed nerd and knowledge seeker who believes that we all have the power to change the world. Buoyed by a constant curiosity and optimism, she was naturally drawn to Digital Eskimo’s mission of progressing and nurturing humanity towards a sustainable future.

After graduating from a Bachelor of Arts, (Media, Communication & History) at the University of Sydney in 2006, Yvonne found herself in the fast-paced world of national print media sales. There she discovered her affinity for people, production and processes but not sales, and is consequently now pursuing a Masters of Design Management.

She has also dived head first into the world of volunteering for various arts and creative events, gaining extensive production experience at Performance Space and Artmonth, with a current stint as production assistant for the Sydney Design Festival. Attracted to all things wholesome, natural and balancing – she also finds solace in yoga, farmer’s markets and cooking.
